Creating Local, National and Global Citizens from an Early Age
A few weeks ago, during one of our in-service days, the teachers worked in groups to reflect on the definition of a global citizen, which is part of our mission as a school. It was commonly agreed that it does not only entail being aware of what happens in the World but also understanding that we should take an active role in helping out.
When the sad news about Australia’s fires came out, I thought long and hard about how to approach the subject with my children. When I asked them what we could do to help, they suggested some great ideas, but we agreed that moving to Australia or opening up a zoo for injured animals was not really feasible! For this reason, I suggested collecting some money to be sent to one of the local charities. The children fully embraced the initiative, showing such generosity, that some even asked to bring money to school every day.
I was so touched by the care and compassion that they showed towards the injured animals and the disappearing of their habitat. Great job Nursery 4!
Looking forward to continuing our mission of creating not only global but also national citizens this week, with our first Bake Sale on Friday, ready to support our local E.N.P.A. Animal Shelter.

SCIENCE WEEK
From the 18th – 22nd of November the Middle School students celebrated Science Week, with the aim of engaging and inspiring students of all ages to explore the fascinating world of Science!
Grade 6 were asked to investigate experiments that they could try in class. They were encouraged NOT to try the test first, but to predict what they thought might happen. The students had to demonstrate and talk about their experiments to lots of visitors.
Grade 7 investigated the Science of Sport. In small groups they selected different sports, which they then researched. Their presentations explained how the sport and related equipment actually work and they spoke about physics, chemistry and biology in their presentations.
Grade 8 had the task of planning a lesson for the Elementary students, where they became the teachers! All of the objectives were met and a fun time was had by all. The students now have a greater appreciation of what is involved in planning a lesson.

Benvenuti “pesciolini”

Welcome back!
Welcome Back!
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces when we started school on Monday. I know both the teachers and I have been looking forward to seeing your children and helping them adjust to the new school year.
As a school, we aim to provide a safe, secure, happy and stimulating learning environment in which your child can acquire high standards of knowledge, skills and understanding in all areas of the curriculum. We recognise the individual needs of all children and through our very committed and experienced staff, will work in partnership with you so that we can develop each child’s full potential in all areas.
A special welcome to our new students and parents! Here at The Udine International School, we realise that starting a new school can be both an exciting and daunting time and we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Goodbye and Good Luck!
This week the Grade 8’s have spent some time reflecting on their time here at UIS and cherishing the moments with their friends and teachers. They have been working on the mural and writing their speeches for Graduation. They have also spent some time helping out in lessons with the elementary students, which has been a lot of fun! Tonight, we will celebrate their time here at UIS and recognise their achievements. They have certainly been a year group that we will never forget, and we wish them the best of luck on their next adventure.

Water Play in the ECC
What could be more fun than playing with water on a hot day? Whether splashing vigorously and running around through the sprinkler, with a spray bottle or with a bucket full of water, the children of the whole ECC found a great way to have fun and let off steam! The teachers and Mrs. Green joined the fun, running away or chasing a bunch of children who were happy to get wet, while at the same time, some friends preferred staying dry, either observing or getting involved in other fun outdoor activities. As rain started pouring right after the event, when the children were changing into their dry clothes, a few of the Pre-Nursery students shouted with glee, ‘More water! It’s raining! Hooray!’

Successful Summer Shows in the ECC
Performing in front of an audience can certainly be a daunting experience, especially when the audience is made up of some of the most special people in our lives…parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives and friends! This, however, did not scare our ECC children, who all did an outstanding job during their Summer Show and Summer Get Together. Whether it was the little ones of Pre-nursery, or the big Kindergarten kids who are ready for their next step into the big school, all children in the ECC have grown in confidence and abilities, and this clearly shone through during their performance.
Children, your teachers could not be more proud of you all!

ONE DAY TILL ELEMENTARY SHOW TIME!!!
Excitement is mounting as the elementary classes prepare for their annual summer show! A whirlwind of activity is evident throughout the school, each student finding a venue for personal creative talent, whether it be music, dance, art, costume making, scenery building, set-design. There’s something for everyone! The show also affords a real-life opportunity to work together as a team, each contributing a piece to creating a vibrant puzzle. A walk through the halls is testimony of students helping each other practice, learning dance steps, or trying hard to reach that difficult note. Of course, we all hope for a great show… but the journey towards its realization has been just as valuable as the final product. Hope you come to share in the excitement of our “Beauty and the Beast”!!
